MALAWI - BANDAWE PRESBYTERY
Zone 1
This lies east of Mzuzu City but in the upland/hilly areas of Nkhata Bay
District. It comprises the following congregations:
Kajirirwe Congregation: This congregation is the closest to Nlzuzu. It is under
Rev Chisiza and Mr Solomon Manda is Senior Session Clerk
Luweya Congregation lies south of Kajirirwe. It is under Rev Elliot Ngwira and
Mr Manase Phiri is Senior Session Clerk
Limphasa Congregation lies east of Kajirirwe along the road from Mzuzu to Nkhata
Bay. The congregation is under Rev Rodgers Banda and Mr Vincent Banda is Senior
Session Clerk. Luweya will likely be a Zone Station in the ndddle of a Tea
Plantation.
Zone 2
This comprises of the following congregations
IVkhata Bay Congregation. It is at the shore of Lake Malawi east of Limphasa
Congregation. It is under Rev Greyson Munyimbiri.
Phiri Congregation is a neighbouring congregation to Nkhata Bay and lies south
west of Nkhata Bay. It is under Rev Isaac Malongo.
Sanga Congregation lies to the south of Phiri. The two congregations are
separated by a Rubber Plantation which was established by early Traders whom
Robert Laws brought to Malawi to introduce legitimate trade over against the
horrendous- slave trade. The congregation is under a retired minister Rev E.N.
Moyo who served in Zambia first as a lay person and then got ordained later.
Nkhata Bay will be a central station
Zone 3
This comprises of -
Mdyaka Congregation which lies south of Sanga. It is a newly established
congregation and is served by Rev Lewis Nyirongo while Mr Yohane Mhone is Senior
Session Clerk.
Chintheche Congregation lies south of Sanga. The place used to be an
administration Headquarters
of Nkhata Bay District during colonial times. It is under Rev Robert Mwale and
Mr Levi C. Banda is the Senior Session Clerk.
Kawiya Congregation was established as a new mission station after Robert Laws
had shifted from Old Bandawe to Livingstonia. It is the administration
headquarters of Bandawe Presbytery. The administration station in Kawiya is
known as Bandawe Station. The congregation and station are under Rev Hamilton
Gondwe. Mr Bright Chipasi Chirwa is Senior Session Clerk.
Bandawe Congregation. This is the oldest congregation in the whole Synod and was
the first mission station established by Rev Dr Robert Laws, the Founder of the
Livingstonia Mission in 1881. Due to some administrative problems for nearly one
year the congregation has had no full time minister. We hope to allocate a
Minister there at the forthcoming Synod meeting in September. Mr Happy Banda
is the Senior Session Clerk.
