Monkton Community Church and Pioneer Cafe
By Car:
If you are driving from the north, the two main routes are via the A78
(Irvine, Saltcoats, Ardorssan), and the M77/A77 (Kilmarnock, Glasgow).In
both cases follow the directions to Prestwick Airport via
the A79.
After exiting the roundabout which takes you onto the A79,
and approximately 200 yards on your left you will
see Prestwick Airport, and also a Goodrich
building. At the bottom of the incline there is a roundabout. Take the first
left onto the B739 (Station Road) all the way to a set of
traffic lights (the school is just before them on the left hand side). At
the traffic lights turn right and the church and cafe are on your left hand
side.
If travelling from the south the best way to
approach Prestwick is using the A77 following the road
signs for Prestwick Airport via the A79, and follow the directions above. If travelling
from Ayr use the A79 passing Sainsburys supermarket on the right (at
Prestwick Toll), carrying on through Prestwick and passing Prestwick North
Parish Chuirch on the right hand side. Go left when you reach the roundabout
and you are on the A79. Drive straight on through the small roundabout in
front of the airport, and past the Airport. After approximately 0.5 miles
you will come to a roundabout, take the B739 (Station Road) all the way to a
set of traffic lights (the school is just before them on the left hand
side). At the traffic lights turn right. The church and cafe are on the left
hand side.
By Bus:
Please go to the website of Stagecoach UK to choose appropriate travel arrangements.
The bus will stop close to the Main Street (near the school), and the church and cafe are a short walk of approximately 20 yards.
By Train:
Trans run from Glasgow, Ayr, and a limited service from Girvan. Please go to TheTrainline.com website to choose appropriate travel arrangements.
There are two stations available Glasgow Prestwick International Airport (1.5 miles to Monkton), and Prestwick Town (2.5 miles to Monkton).
Directions from Glasgow Prestwick International Airport.
Exit the station, and either wait for a bus, or walk north on the A79. After approximately 0.5 miles you will come to a roundabout, take the B739 (Station Road) all the way to a set of traffic lights (the school is just before them on the left hand side). At the traffic lights turn right and walk approximately 15 yards. The church and cafe are opposite.
Directions from Prestwick Town.
Exit the station, and walk straight ahead to the Main Street along Station Road. If you wish to wait for a bus, you will see gardens on your right hand side where there is also a bus stop (directly opposite the Clydesdale Bank). If you decide to walk, go past the post office on the left hand side and you will see the Red Lion Hotel opposite. Turn left on Main Street, and continue walking for approximately 300 yards to the roundabout (as you go you will see a garage on your left side and Prestwick North Parish Church on your right). Go left when you reach the roundabout and you are on the A79. Walk straing past the small roundabout in front of the airport, and past the Airport. After approximately 0.5 miles you will come to a roundabout, take the B739 (Station Road) all the way to a set of traffic lights (the school is just before them on the left hand side). At the traffic lights turn right and walk approximately 15 yards. The church and cafe are opposite.
